GreetingCardPuzzles
jigsaw puzzle email help
Question:
Why do I need to change the file
extension of your
GreetingCardPuzzles
puzzles before emailing them?
Many email providers, such as Gmail (Google), Yahoo, Hotmail and others, do
not allow you to attach an "exe" or executable file to an email
message. These email service providers will either return your email
as undeliverable or will deliver the email without the file
attached. Changing the file extension provides a work around for
this email limitation.
Question: What is a file extension for and how do I rename it?
Windows uses the file extensions (the three letters at the end of a
file name) to identify what type of file it is and what Windows has
to do with it.

To rename a file extension in Windows is very easy. Once the
GreetingCardPuzzles
puzzle is downloaded and saved on your computer, locate
it using Windows Explorer. Click the file with the right mouse
button and select "Rename" from the context menu. Using your mouse,
highlight only the "exe" portion at the end of the file name and
replace "exe" with "puzzle" (but be sure to leave the "." (dot) in
place). Hit "Enter" on your keyboard. A message will pop-up stating
"If you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable.
Are you sure you want to change this?", click Yes.
You can now attach the renamed
GreetingCardPuzzles
puzzle to your email and
send it to your friends and family. Remember to tell the recipient
to change the extension back to "exe".
Question: I don't see the ".exe" at the end of the
GreetingCardPuzzles
puzzle, what do
I do now?
Depending on your installation of Windows, it may be set to hide the
extension of many file types. If you do not see the extension after
your file name, you need to change one of the Windows options.
All Windows versions:
Open your "My Computer"
-
In the menu, select "Tools" and choose "Folder Options"
-
In the Folder Options window, click the "View" tab
-
In the "Advanced settings" window, scroll down the list until you
see the
entry "Hide extensions for known file types"
Uncheck this check box
Click on OK
For Windows Vista
The procedure is the same, however you may need to "show" the menu
bar in Windows Explorer.
-
Open your "My Computer"
-
Click "Organize"
-
Scroll down to "Layout"
-
Click on "Menu Bar"
You can proceed following the steps outlined above for "All Windows
versions"
